What’s happening.
The East’s Group is set to turn the Waverley Bowling Club site into residential towers. The photo above is an artist’s impression published in the SMH 23 Sept 2020. The current site looks like an empty field, disbanded and overrun by weeds. A former public and much loved community asset lost forever or will the East’s Group deliver on its promises and return something back to the community? We will have to wait and see.
The current proposed 4 x 3-7 storey towers will replace Waverley Bowling Club’s three championship greens with:
- 78 seniors units and facilities
- two basement levels for 178 car spaces
- much diminished registered clubhouse and two greens
Why we care
Waverley is running out of open green and recreational space.
What precious public space we have is rapidly disappearing; the tennis courts in Simpson Street, Bondi have been removed and now the Waverley Bowling Club is under threat.
Residents fear the East’s Group’s development will a result in the loss of precious community amenity as well as added congestion and traffic.
What we’re doing
For over 2 years, Waverley Action Group has supported lobbying efforts by community groups, including Save Waverley Bowlo, as well as the local precinct to stop this planning proposal.
In August 2019, Waverley Council and community representatives delivered submissions to the Land and Environment Court outlining their concerns and objections. We lost our case and now wait for East’s Group and their developer to deliver the goods.
